General News And Information

Competitive Chess 2024-2025 season

We are looking to enter teams into Div2, H&D, Sharp Trophy AND a new team into Herts Div 6. David is captain for Div2 team. Tony is captain for H&D and Div6. A volunteer is required to be captain for the Sharp team. Please let them know if you are interested in playing competitive chess for these teams. See fixtures page for dates. Please note you will also need to have at least a Bronze membership of the ECF. Details to join ECF can be found here.

WhatsApp Group

There is a Whatsapp group set up for general communications and finding out who is attending the club on any given Tuesday. If you are not part of the WhatsApp (and wish to be) please ask David or any of the Andrews to add you.

Internal Club Competition

The internal competition will run throughout the 2024-2025 season. It will consist of playing graded games against other club members. As it is a graded competition you will need to have at least Bronze Membership of the ECF (£20 per year/£6 for Juniors). Please let Tony know if you have any questions and wish to participate.

Want to play for Hertfordshire County?

Herts County are entering 2 teams this year. U1850 and U1600 (or possibly it is U1650). To qualify to play you need to be under these grades in the Sept 2024 rating. Matt Ball (St Albans) is organiser for the U1850 team. Martin Hill (St Albans) is organiser for the U1600. If you wish to play please let them know.

U1850 fixtures can be found here. The first match is Sun Nov 17th in Newmarket (2 games). If you are interested in playing please let Matt Ball know by 14th Oct. (If you need Matt's email address then any of the Andrews, Roger, David or Tony should be able to provide it). There are 16 players per team, and there are typically a number of other Welwyn Hatfield members who go and can share lifts.

We will add details about U1600/1650 here as soon as we find any. If you are interested in playing then Martin Hill is probably the best contact

A winning start... 2024-2025

The club has had a good start to the season by becoming joint winners at the annual Allenbury's Jamboree with a score of 4 out of 5. Congratulations to all involved.
